GRAND MARSHALL Vancouver PRIDE 2008!
EQUAL GROUND is happy to announce that the Co-Chairperson of the Board of Trustees, Sahran Abeysundara has been selected as the Grand Marshall of Vancouver Pride 2008!
Vancouver, British Columbia is Western Canada’s largest city and a longtime center of gay activism. Vancouver’s Gay Pride Parade and Festival this year will be held from July 28 through August 4, 2008.
Many events are planned for this time, including concerts, parties, lectures, boat cruises and art exhibitions. In 2007, Vancouver Gay Pride drew nearly 400,000 participants. Since 2008 is the event’s 30th anniversary, it is certain to draw even bigger crowds this year. Gay Pride Vancouver, which is Canada’s oldest Pride organization, is anticipating as many as 500,000 attendees.
It is a proud occasion for us that Sahran has been chosen to represent Asia and indeed Sri Lanka as the Grand Marshall of the Pride Festival in Vancouver, Canada. Recognition for EQUAL GROUND and its work is indeed appreciated and Sahran epitomizes the dedication and passion required for the work we do for the LGBT community of Sri Lanka and the rest of the world. Earlier in the year Sahran was elected unanimously as the ILGA Asia Male representative to the Executive Board of ILGA (the International Lesbian and Gay Association).
